RAW MATERIAL TESTING & ANALYSIS

Steel of different grades and sections are received as per the Purchase Order from the approved steel mills along with the Test Certificates.

After receiving the Steel, the same is examined and tested for the following at our Plant and Laboratory.

• Surface defects visually inspected 100%
• Chemical analysis for required elements by wet method 2-3 pieces per heat.
• Upset test on 2 to 3 cut pieces from the bars per heat.
• Step down test carried out to check internal soundness of material received.
• Inclusion rating, grain size, jominy value of hardenability also checked as required.
• Spark and Spectral Test also carried out partially or 100% if required.

If the steel received found satisfactory, colour codes and heat code letters are provided and the lot of material is released for cutting department.

Proper display boards are provided to each lot of steel whether the lot is under test, O.K. or Rejected. Cut pieces are stored in fabricated M.S. bins with identification mark provided on the bins like VF No. Heat Code, Qty., etc. Material release note is also given to shop floor about the acceptance of material for cutting to forge components required. Rejected material lot is provided with red colour identification and returned to supplier.
